Anyway neither version, 115.1 ESR or 15.0.1 make much sense as the latter would be a downgrade. it has always worked so well for me and there are a couple of utilities I use for Mac now that do what I used to get on Terminal for. I "am" embarrassed however it really is a testament to Mozilla and Firefox. My biggest problem is that I haven't "tinkered" with the workings of the browser for a long time and while I remember some of those old things I'm afraid I've gotten lazy with Firefox. When Firefox came out I felt completely at home! :) I didn't and still don't care for other browsers so much and hated Internet Explorer! I was for a time the moderator of a Netscape forum. Then it was Netscape and I've been a supporter ever since. I can only assume it was an error? I've actually been using Mozilla in some form or another since i got my first computer in 1997.
It did surprise me as well as once I realized that below Mac OS 10.5 would no longer be supported when FF 116 comes out and that we would be migrated to ESR, when FF 116 came out. I have Firefox 115.0.2 on MacOS and FF is asking me to upgrade to 115.1esr ? How can that be to switch toa ESR version? What's going on here? /quote just as the fellow in the link I left above who saw the same: I've never had any major problems with an update this way, updates have always found my profile and worked very well. I like that they can be automatic and come as an app update because that way I don't have to create a whole new profile etc.
I set Firefox to check for updates but to let me install them and I check about once a week. As mentioned I never did the offered update to 115.1 ESR as it disappeared before I got the chance. The release notes I linked to above are from my current version of Firefox so yes, it is definitely 115.0.2 Release. This is when I became aware that support for below MacOS 10.15 was being dropped, so I definitely want the 115.1 ESR version for a time until I figure out something more permanent. When I found the update to 115.1 ESR when I checked for updates under "About Firefox" I googled it and found one other person who had the same thing as me happen: Thank you very much for your replies! They are indeed very helpful and I think they have solved my questions very well.
